Embark on a captivating 3-day desert experience, exploring isolated landscapes and cultural highlights.
Day one begins in Marrakech, leading through the High Atlas Mountains to Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a UNESCO heritage site, and Ouarzazate, known as the Hollywood of Africa. Drive through Draa Valley, one of Morocco’s longest valleys, and reach Zagora for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day two takes you to Tamegroute to visit an ancient library, then Mhamid, and finally, the stunning Erg Chigaga dunes for a camel trek at sunset.
Day three includes a sunrise at Chigaga Dunes, a visit to Iriki Lake, and a journey through Berber towns, concluding this memorable desert tour in Marrakech.
Day 1 Marrakech – Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Draa Valley – Zagora
In our Morocco desert tour we will drive from Marrakech, the red city, into the High Atlas Mountains on a road that looks out on the mountains foothills with all the Berber villages that reside in them. Our first stop will be in Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a fortified village built in the 11th century, which is known as the UNESCO world heritage site.
Then 35 km later we will visit Ouarzazate, the largest city in south-east Morocco known as the Hollywood of Africa. Thereafter we will continue driving to the longest valley in Morocco Draa valley (1052 km long) to get to Zagora where you will see the remains of Almoravide fortress. Dinner and overnight stay will be held in a typical hotel.
Day 2 Zagora – Tamegroute – Mhamid – Chigaga Dunes
On the second day, we will continue our drive by the Draa river till we reach the town of Tamegroute to visit one of the most ancient libraries and then making our way to the village of Mhamid. We will drive directly to the Erg Chigaga dunes where we will trek by camels at sunset, the most beautiful view you will ever see, to reach our nomadic camp for a night of music spent under the sky.
Day 3 Chigaga Dunes – Iriki Lake – Foumzguid – Tazenakht – High Atlas – Marrakech
You will wake up early to catch the sunrise, have breakfast, and drive directly to the dried lake of Iriki that was filled with water 30 years ago and was inhabited by all kinds of birds.
After, we will pass by the quiet Berber town of Foum-Zguid followed by a stop in Tazenakht where there is one of the biggest carpet centers in all of Morocco. Then, we will drive 90 km crossing many valleys and Berber villages to conclude our Marrakech to erg Chigaga desert tour.
